The bar at the Prince George Golf and Curling Club is going to get less exclusive.
On Monday night, city council gave their blessing for a liquor licence application by the club which would allow them to serve alcohol to non-club members without a special occasion licence or being signed in by a club member.
The proposed licence would cover service between 9 a.m. and 3 a.m., seven days per week for an occupancy load of 651 people (including patio, bleachers and games room).
The application also calls for minors to be allowed in the lounge, patio and bleachers until 10 p.m. while there are curling- and golf-related activities.
As a non-profit group, the club relies on revenue over and above what it makes strictly through golf and curling fees, said a letter to council from the club from club president Dan Martin.
"Operating a food and beverage service enhances the sporting experience and helps offset the ongoing costs of hydro, gas and other facility expenses," Martin wrote.
More than 40 per cent of golfers and 80 per cent of curlers are not club members, the letter said.
