Bank helps Burns Lake health

A $25,000 donation from the Royal Bank of Canada Foundation to the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation will help purchase two pieces of medical equipment for the Lakes District Hospital in Burns Lake.

A $25,000 donation from the Royal Bank of Canada Foundation to the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation will help purchase two pieces of medical equipment for the Lakes District Hospital in Burns Lake.

The contribution, which is the first half of a planned $50,000 donation, will go towards the acquisition of a slit lamp and an infant warmer/resuscitator. The lamp is used in the emergency department to help diagnose eye injuries, while the warmer/resuscitator is an upgrade from an older model the hospital currently employs.

"[This] donation will purchase two new pieces of equipment, which will support the many services that the Lakes District Hospital provides to the people of this area," Lakes District Hospital health services administrator Marie Hunter said in a news release. "Most importantly, emergency and maternity services require urgent care and having the most modern equipment available will assist health professionals in the delivery of quality care."

The RBC Foundation has now contributed more than $230,000 to Spirit of the North over the years.
