A 46-year-old man was arrested early Tuesday morning after a bait car was set off by a break, enter and theft.

The car had been located on Chartwell Crescent in the Westgate area and the man was found hiding in a back yard and arrested without incident after RCMP were called to the scene at 2 a.m.

He was found with a backpack carrying a Canon camera, Nikon binoculars and a Gerber knife, all believed to have been stolen.

To reclaim the items, the owners should contact Cst. Rob Lamont at 250-561-3300.

Originally from Ontario, the man is currently under two probation orders from previous property crime related convictions and was also out on bail awaiting trial in another Prince George property crime investigation from earlier in May.

He is on the Prince George RCMP's prolific offender watch list and it's believed he is committing the offences to support a drug addiction.

Police are recommending several charges, including theft under $5,000, mischief, possession of stolen property, trespassing and breach of probation.
