An armed standoff inside a Prince George apartment turned out to be less credible than initial claims made to police.
It was the female complainant who left the building in handcuffs, Tuesday morning, not the initial male suspect. The initial suspect left on a stretcher with undisclosed injuries that are reportedly not life threatening.
The gun that was supposedly in the grasp of the male suspect turned out to be a pellet gun that was not being used in a threatening manner. Nonetheless, police had to consider it a real threat until they could confirm otherwise.
"The one who made the initial complaint was indicating to us things that we discovered were untrue," said Prince George RCMP spokesman Cpl. Craig Douglass.
"It was blown out of proportion by the woman we eventually removed from the scene in handcuffs."
Douglass explained that even that was not as it might seem to the public. Various parts of the incident were witnessed by passersby and neighbours of the Spruceland Apartments in the 3600 block of 15th Avenue. Rather than focusing on the Criminal Code of Canada for this incident, police are applying parts of the Mental Health Act.
