Area restriction rescinded for the Chelaslie River fire

The area restriction order around the Chelaslie River fire will be rescinded due to cooler weather and subsequent decrease in fire activity, the Northwest Fire Centre said today.

The area restriction order around the Chelaslie River fire will be rescinded due to cooler weather and subsequent decrease in fire activity, the Northwest Fire Centre said today.

Located about 93 kilometres south of Burns Lake, the fire has burned about 133,100 hectares in and around Entiako Provincial Park.

An evacuation order issued by B.C. Parks for Entiako Provincial Park will also be rescinded, as will an evacuation alert issued by the Regional District of Bulkely-Nechako.

All three will come into effect at noon Thursday.

"Despite the lifting of these orders, the Northwest Fire Centre reminds the public that the Chelaslie River fire is still an active wildfire and cautions against entering areas where wildfires are burning," Northwest Fire Centre officials said.

"Recently burned areas and areas of active wildfire contain multiple potential hazards, including dangerous trees with compromised root systems, hotspots, and unstable temporary access

routes and fire guards."
