The spring-like conditions the city was basking under earlier this week are ending and there's snow in the forecast for Friday and Saturday.

Coincidentally, Bernie Funston, chairperson of the Canadian Polar Commission is in the city today to address a group of university students to talk about Canada's role in monitoring the snow- and ice-covered polar region and the importance of promoting public awareness in polar science.

Funston, who also serves an advisor to Canada's ambassador for circumpolar affairs, will make a presentation to students from 1-2 p.m. today at UNBC in Room 5-122.

Born in the Northwest Territories and now based in Ottawa, Funston brings his considerable knowledge of history, circumpolar affairs (the subject of his masters studies at Cambridge University) and constitutional law, which led to his involvement in aboriginal land claims and political and economic development in Canada's northern territories. He's worked with intergovernmental Arctic Council for 15 years.
