Apprenticeship scholarships go to 22 students

Twenty-two students in the School District 57 career programs apprenticeship program have earned $1,000 scholarships, school board trustees were told Tuesday night.

Twenty-two students in the School District 57 career programs apprenticeship program have earned $1,000 scholarships, school board trustees were told Tuesday night.

The recipients, their schools, trades and sponsor employers, are: Clayton Bigland (College Heights, carpenter, Custom Technologies Ltd.), Alexander Frechette (College Heights, carpenter, Dawn Til Dusk Contracting), Amanda Teschke (College Heights, cook, Moxie's Grill), Conrad Lloyd (Concept, roofer, Admiral Roofing), Nicole Berg (D.P. Todd, cook, Mr. Mikes), Alexander Shill (D.P. Todd, floor covering installer, Nu Floors), Joshua Gomes (D.P. Todd, meat cutter, Roger's Custom Meats), Damien Smith (D.P. Todd, welder, Radium Technologies), Chad Oosterhoff (D.P. Todd, electrician, Houle Electric), Craig Blanchard (D.P. Todd, electrician, Westcana), Brody Moore (D.P. Todd, electrician, Westcana), Lane Desjarlais (D.P. Todd, cook, Earls), Jared Zettl (Duchess Park, mason, Zettl Masonry), Nathan Kwitkoski (Duchess Park, welder, Northern Energy Constructors), Kolter Hammond (Kelly Road, carpenter, G.R. Students are eligible for the program if they are attending school, are between 15 and 19 years of age and are working in a trade related field with an eligible sponsor.

In order to receive a scholarship, students have to graduate, maintain a C+ average in their Grade 12 courses and do a minimum of 900 hours of work-based training.
