The City of Prince George has received two Community Leadership Awards at the North Central Local Government Association (NCLGA) annual general meeting and convention
The city took home awards for both environmental stewardship and economic development.
The environmental stewardship award was given for work in preserving and protecting the communities natural environment.
The city stated that it was given this award due to its use of Novion’s Natural Asset Management Platform which uses satellite imaging and AI to identify natural assets like wetlands to assess the condition of these assets within city boundaries.
The city added that it will use this tool to further inform the city’s decision to retain certain areas for environmental sustainability purposes and help the city adapt to the changing climate.
The award for economic development was presented jointly to both Prince George and the City of Prince Rupert in recognition of their partnership to launch and advance the Northern BC Hydrogen Hub initiative.
This new initiative will aim to diversify both city's economies and create sustainable employment opportunities.
It was also announced at the annual general meeting that the City of Prince George, along with its partners has been selected to host the 2026 NCLGA annual general meeting.
