An apartment building was evacuated early Tuesday morning, after a can of bear spray was discharged in the building’s common area.

The Prince George Fire Rescue were called to an apartment building in the 1800 block of Third Avenue at 6:33 a.m. on Tuesday. Fire crews discovered a strong odour throughout the building and several residents were having trouble breathing, according to a statement issued by the fire department Tuesday morning.

The building was evacuated and two residents were sent to hospital for treatment, while others were treated on the scene for bear spray exposure.

Fire crews ventilated the building for two hours before the odour was cleared and residents were allowed to return to their suites.
