Two people are dead following a fire at a duplex in Prince George Friday, July 25.
Prince George Fire Rescue reports that crews responded just after 2:25 p.m. to the structure fire in the 1400 block of Strathcona Avenue. Flames and heavy smoke were visible from the front, sides and rear of the building when firefighters arrived.
Firefighters launched a coordinated attack to contain the blaze and discovered two people inside who had died from their injuries. Their identities have not been released.
Two other residents were taken to hospital with unspecified injuries.
Firefighters also rescued two cats from the home.
Both units of the duplex were damaged, heaviest at the rear of the structure. The building, which neighbours say has been frequently visited by police in recent weeks, sustained an estimated $265,000 in damage.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Prince George RCMP, the BC Coroners Service and fire investigators were on scene into the evening.
Traffic in the area was partially closed off as emergency personnel continued their work.
