Another COVID-related death reported in northern B.C.

Ministry of Health reports 232 new cases of COVID-19 in the Northern Health region on Thursday

The COVID-19 pandemic has claimed another life in the Northern Health region.

The B.C. Ministry of Health reported the death on Thursday, bringing the region’s death toll from the pandemic up to 291.

The ministry reported 232 new cases of COVID-19 in the region on Thursday.

According to the B.C. Centre for Disease Control, 40 people are currently hospitalized with the disease of which 15 are in intensive care.

The seven-day average for new cases stood at 184. The number of active cases was not provided.

As of Thursday, 90.3 per cent of eligible British Columbians (aged five and older) had received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, and 84.9 per cent have received a second dose. In addition, 51.1 per cent of British Columbians aged 12 and older have received a booster dose.

As of Feb. 7, 89 per cent of people age 12 and older in the Prince George local health area had received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 85 per cent had received two doses. Only 45 per cent of children aged five to 11 years old had received their first dose of COVID-19 in the Prince George local health area.

More than 11.04 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the province.
