An Alberta man is facing multiple charges after his attempt to evade police in downtown Prince George on Aug. 14 resulted in one person being seriously injured.
Christopher Frank Phillips, 42, is facing charges of flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and failing to comply with a probation order. Phillps had an outstanding warrant for his arrest out of Red Deer, Alta. for offences related to firearms, drugs and driving, stemming from an incident in September 2019. He was also wanted on an arrest warrant in Ontario for drug charges dating back to August 2018.
The incident Phillips is facing charges for in Prince George happened around noon on Aug. 14. Members of the RCMP Street Crew Unit attempted to stop a vehicle near the corner of Victoria Street and 15th Avenue/Patricia Boulevard.
The driver of the vehicle immediately drove away north, down Victoria Street. In the interest of public safely, officers did not pursue the vehicle.
Moments later, RCMP received a report of a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Eighth Avenue and Vancouver Street. Officers arrived on scene and found the suspect vehicle had collided with another vehicle. The driver of the vehicle that had been hit suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to police.
The suspect fled on foot and then got into another vehicle being driving by man. That vehicle was located by police a few minutes later at Third Avenue and Victoria Street. The vehicle was stopped, and Phillips and a 31-year-old man were taken into custody.
The 31-year-old has been released without charges at this time, an RCMP statement said, but the investigation is ongoing.
