The Prince George Air Improvement Roundtable will provide a $500 rebate to the first 37 residents who trade in their old smoky wood burning appliance for better ones.

The program will run until the end of January, PGAIR said in a press release.

Residents can visit www.pgairquality.com or one of the following participating retailers to get more information and to reserve a voucher: Dales Wood and Gas Heating; Fraser Plumbing and Heating; Mainline Plumbing and Heating; Furnaceland.

The rebate will go towards purchase of a new natural gas, pellet, or wood burning appliance certified by the Canadian Standards Association.

Program participants may receive additional savings by having their heating unit permit fee waived by the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George or the City of Prince George.

They can also receive a free in-home visit with a professional master burner to show them how to properly run their appliance. They will also receive a moisture meter to test for ideal moisture content when collecting and seasoning their firewood.

Tips on using wood-burning appliances can be found at www.burnitclean.com.
