A basement suite fire believed to have been caused by an unattended air fryer caused an estimated $85,000 damage Wednesday to a home on the 7000 block of St. Clare Street in College Heights.
When fire crews from three halls responded to the call at about noon Wednesday, they found heavy smoke in the basement. The fire was contained to the suite and all the residents and pets safely escaped.
No injuries were reported. Firefighters remained on the scene for the afternoon to make sure the fire had not spread to other parts of the home.
