Prince George RCMP and Ministry of Transportation commercial vehicle safety enforcement officials issued 473 violations and repair orders over a two-day safety enforcement project within city limits last week.
Nine vehicles were ordered off the road immediately and of that total eight were for braking issues, including worn out brake pads, missing brake shoes and a cut brake line.
In all 361 repair orders were issued, as well as 29 violations for failing to comply with driver's licence restrictions, 13 for speeding, 11 for intersection-related offences, nine for driving without a valid licence, eight for insecure loads, eight for driving without insurance and four for driving while prohibited.
Four were issued notifications of prohibitions, suspending their driving privileges immediately, two were issued three-day suspensions for driving after consuming alcohol, two were issued driving without due care violations, one was issued a 90-day suspension after consuming alcohol, one received a warning under the Wildlife Act and one was arrested for a breach of conditions of an undertaking.
"Traffic safety is not just a police issue. It's an issue for everyone that travels on our roads," said Sgt. Al Steinhauser, in charge of Prince George RCMP's municipal traffic section. "Safety starts at home in your driveway and with regular vehicle maintenance."
The enforcement project was held on Thursday and Friday.
