Stock car racing returns to Prince George Saturday night.

The pandemic wiped out the entire 2020 season before it even began and that long wait for local racing fans will end tonight when the stock cars return to the Playground of Power, otherwise known as PGARA Speedway.

Racing in the Turgeon Memorial meet is scheduled in all four Prince George Auto Racing Association classes, including Ron’s Towing hornets, Chieftain Auto Parts mini stocks, pro minis and Canadian Tire street stock.

The meet commemorates Roger (Turkey) Turgeon, a longtime PGARA driver/board member, and his wife Corrine, who served as board member and track volunteer. Roger died in 2012, followed in 20123 by Corrine.

Time trials are at 6 p.m. and racing starts at 7.

PGFARA Speedway is located on the eastern edge of the city at 3645 Highway 16 East.

The three-eighths mile oval track will host a WESCAR doubleheader when the touring late-model series returns to Prince George, July 24-25, supported by the four PGARA classes.
