An award-nominated blues roots artist and a singer songwriter are plying their sound to an Art Stage audience Saturday night.

Gordie Tentrees's most recent album Mercy or Sin was nominated for a 2010 Western Canadian Music Award for Roots Solo Album of the Year, and he joins singer/songwriter Sarah Macdougall for a weekend performance.

"The audience is in for a real treat when they hear Sarah Macdougall perform," said Tentrees. "The show will be like two concerts in one, with me opening and Sarah finishing off the night."

Hailing from the Yukon, Tentrees and Macdougall said they've got to make it count when they venture out on the road. The tour sees about 60 shows in eight countries.

"We've done 50 shows in a row before," said Macdougall. "This is definitely the craziest tour we've done."

This whole event fell into place without the intention of having quite so many dates.

"I met Sarah [Macdougall] who said 'Come to Scandinavia,'" said Tentrees.

"And then I said 'If we go to Scandinavia then you should come to the States...' and so we did sort of a swap. Then an Italian booking agent jumped on board and then Germany invited us back and then oh my God! And so we said 'OK, all right,' And I can't complain about it."

Tentrees has made two albums since his last visit to town so people will hear plenty of new material.

"We haven't played in Prince George for quite a while -- not since the Folk Festival was in the park," he said. "It's been about four years now, so it's time to come back.

"Our show has grown a lot and we play a whole whack of instruments -- dobro, lap steel quitar and slide, country folk blues kind of music and they'll hear stories. Our show is a dynamic up-tempo kind of show, with a rootsy folk base, so it's all over the place."

The duo should not be missed, said Tentrees.

"It's going to be a great show and I suggest that if you're in Prince George don't be any where else this Saturday night."

Tickets are $20 at Books & Co., 1685 Third Avenue. Art Space is above Books & Co. and the show starts at 8 p.m.
