If you're wondering about the value of that family heirloom, you can find out it's a real treasure or just a treasure to you during an antique appraisals event Saturday and Sunday at Art Space, above Books & Co., 1685 Third Avenue, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

It's Canadian Heritage Week and Huble Homestead/Giscome Portage Heritage Society is celebrating by inviting appraiser Ted Pappas to Prince George once again so residents can find out what their antiques are worth and a bit about its history.

Even if people don't have anything they wish to have appraised they can attend the event, watch the appraisals take place and learn how to care for items at home or get a treat from the concession.

Appraisals are $10 for each item and there is no limit on how many items a person can have appraised. Proceeds of the event stay with the society and go to help with upkeep on the Huble Homestead Historic Site.

Pappas's specialties include jewelry, art and First Nations items, but he is able and willing to appraise nearly everything.

To appraise furniture or other large items, bring a couple of good quality printed photographs and note any manufacturer's markings.

The attestation form is often good for insurance purposes, though may not be accepted by all insurance providers. At this price though, you've got nothing to lose.
