If you already have the songs, you just need the knowledge.
It takes more to tour than just starting the band van, and the BC Touring Council will help you get farther down that road.
The BC Touring Council (BCTC) is a not-for-profit agency made up of musicians, agents, managers, promoters and venue operators. For decades it has been a development vehicle for the music acts of the province.
On Feb. 2 they will hold a set of meetings and workshops in Prince George for the benefit of local artists who want to reach a wider audience with their songs.
"Learn about pre-tour planning, budgeting, funding, selling your show, marketing, social media and more," said a statement issued by the BCTC. "The two-day workshop, happening prior to the opening of the Coldsnap Festival, is intended to serve emerging artists, agents and managers interested in enhancing their knowledge about touring."
Those eligible are musicians, agents or managers aged 18-34 "who have mastered the basic techniques of their art form through education or apprenticeship, and are in the early stage of launching a professional career."
Even those who have already done some miles on the music road could well learn more details about this aspect of their careers.
For those who have to travel to Prince George from farther out in the region may qualify for a travel subsidy.
The On The Road Touring and Training Workshop happens Feb. 2-3 at the Coast Inn of the North, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. The deadline to register is Jan. 27. There is no charge to attend the event, but attendees must be members of the BCTC, which has a membership fee of about $60.
Securing your spot can happen online at the event page on Facebook (click on the Tickets Available button) or go to the BCTC website
(bctouring.org) and follow the links marked Touring & Training.
