There is interloping happening at the Theatre North West wine event on Saturday.
The grande finale to the week-long Sip Wine Festival is the founding component of the whole winestravaganza, the TNW gala fundraiser that's been running in Prince George for the past 20 years.
Obviously it's wine that the audience is pouring over when they come to the classy sip-and-savour event, but this year there will be a deliciously rebellious corner some in the crowd will sneak off to enjoy, almost like a clever secret.
TNW general manager Marnie Hamagami has added a (not so) hush-hush whisky station off to the side of the vino tables that surround the facility (it's all happening at The Exploration Place).
"This is really exciting for TNW because we will be able to offer something for people who love scotch and Canadian whisky," said Hamagami. "The wine festival will be a great deal because you will get to try at least four single-malts, plus nibble and wine for only $75."
It isn't just a blip on the wine festival radar. Two experts in the whisky field will be there in person to enhance the tasting experience. Keith Trusler (scotch) and Colin MacDougall (Canadian whisky) will be your personal taste guides for those sampling the stronger stuff.
"It is always exciting to attract experts to our event. It gives us an opportunity to offer something really special and unique to our guests," said Hamagami.
Their slate of flavours includes the following labels:
Scotch
- The Glenlivet Founders Reserve
- The Glenlivet 15-year-old
- Aberlour 12-year-old
- Aberlour A'bunadh
Canadian Whisky
- JP Wiser's Deluxe
- Lot 40
- Gooderham & Wortz
- Pike Creek
The TNW wine festival is held in two parts, due to popular demand. The evening event is a coveted ticket, at this point, but the afternoon edition still has some vacancies remaining. Both are a 19-plus occasions, both sell for $75 per ticket, with the evening event happening at
7:30 p.m. and the matinee event happening from 1-4 p.m.
For ticket information, buy online at the TNW website or in person at Books & Company.
