Looking for entries of digital art, paintings or illustrations the BC Youth Parliament is hosting an art competition geared for youth in BC.

The Phoenix Rising art competition offers an opportunity for youth to showcase their art virtually through this online competition where one of the big prizes is a chance to speak with a Disney animator during a Zoom meeting.

The BC Youth Parliament is a youth service organization where youth lifts up youth in the province.

The art competition donations will support the BC Youth Parliament’s Project Phoenix which is a  camp geared toward children from eight to 12 years old. This year the sleep away camp takes on a more covid-friendly approach as a day camp that will host children who might not otherwise be able to attend camp for social or financial reasons.

“During the competition we’re looking for any 2D media,” Ashley Jensen, lead on the Phoenix Rising art competition, said. “This gives the youth an opportunity to share artwork virtually during the Covid-19 pandemic. This will allow them to express themselves through art and creativity.”

Registration deadline is May 22 and there are three categories in which to enter, including

for those 10 to 13, 14 to 17 and 18 to 22 years. Each division has an opportunity to win prizes that are experiences like meeting an animator, an art consultation with a professional artist or a chance to have art displayed in an art gallery.

Registration fee is $10 that will go towards Project Phoenix.

Once an artist is registered the theme will be shared for each age category and artwork may be submitted from June 8 to 21. Art will be featured on a gallery page on the BCYP website from June 15 to 21.
