The Great Plains are coming to B.C.'s great Interior Plateau.
They've been here before.
The duo of Saskia and Darrel de la Ronde might be named for the Canadian flatland (a place they have lived), but they have toured all over this country and the European Union both on their own and for 10 years as collaborators of Gary Fjellgaard.
They return to Prince George on June 18, bringing along their brand of folk, Celtic, bluegrass, gospel and other roots music all rolled up into one act. They tell animated stories, bring the audience in close for jokes and anecdotes, and yodeling has been known to occur.
The Great Plains had performed with other peer acts like Valdy, and Nathan Tinkham, and they have been joined in the studio by some large names in the Canadian music scene to help them record their nine albums - notables like Daniel Powter, Darby Mills, Steve Dawson, Ken Hamm, Bill Hicks of the Powder Blues, Nolan Murray of Tiller's Folly and more.
They have opened for a diverse range of acts such as The Stampeders, Emerson Drive, The Good Brothers and Roy Forbes.
Along the way, some of their accolades include several Saskatchewan Country Music Association awards, and Top Folk/Roots Album in Holland (Saskia's home country).
They call Vancouver Island home, these days.
They list their hometown as "somewhere on the road" and their motto is "we sing, we play, we drive."
They pull into Prince George for a musical pit stop at Knox United Church on June 18 at 7 p.m.
Tickets are $15 available in advance from the church office (250-564-7822) or from Tom Hynd at 250-563-6188.
