The Prince George Exhibition, the longest and largest running event in our region is 99 years old this year. The event, which brings millions of tourism dollars into Prince George each year, will once again be the highlight of the summer with more than 40,000 people flowing through the gates Aug. 10 to 14.

This year, as last year, the PGX will be a five-day event, with the additional day to fit in all the activities held during the fair.

There will be 400 teams of penners from all over North America, dozens of bull riders and competitors in draft and light horse contests, as well as many other livestock events.

Agriculture Alley barns will be filled with 4-H achievements and in the barns there will also be a petting farm.

There will be traditional home arts and horticulture items on display, a tea garden, Heritage Lane where people take a step back to simpler times as well as ride the Central British Columbia Railway & Forest Industry Museum Society's mini-rail train.

Guests can watch the firefighters games, visit the outdoor vendors as well as the indoor vendors in Kin II, enjoy the outdoor stage filled with local entertainers while the Community Arts Council will host various artists demonstrating their craft as part of the Art at Work program.

Full stage productions in Kin I will start off with a concert starring legendary Canadian rockers Trooper on Wednesday, Aug. 10.

Thursday there will be a banquet of locally grown and prepared food from the Ramada Hotel chef and staff, with the Timebenders entertaining.

On Saturday night, Rick Stavely will perform new country and classic rock during the Bull Rider's Ball.

For the rockers at the PGX, Vancouver-based band, Krome, will take to the stage Friday night.

On the fair grounds will be strolling entertainers to add to the excitement at the fair.

The midway will be hosted by West Coast Amusements.

Pioneer Day, Thursday, August 11, senior citizens are welcomed to the PGX for $5 for all day gate admission.

Kid's Day is Friday, August 12, where children four to 12 years are welcomed to the PGX for the same reduced, all day gate admission. Kids aged three years and under are always free.

Sunday, August 14, the Cops for Cancer team will host a community pancake breakfast in Heritage Lane from 8 to 11 a.m. Everyone is welcome, and between 8 and 10 a.m. parking is free and gate admission is just a toonie. After 10 a.m. parking and regular posted gate admission costs apply. Breakfast is $5 per plate and all funds from the breakfast are raised for a local charity. Stay and enjoy the final day of the PGX after a hearty breakfast!

Hundreds of volunteers have been working hard all year long to put the PGX, and from the opening day concert to the pancake breakfast and all of the events, highlights and activities in between, there will be something for everyone.
