Summerfest is back after a five-year stop.

This year the event will take place at Civic Plaza, Quebec Street and the surrounding area from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Aug. 21

"As the title sponsor we are thrilled to be able to work with the Downtown Business Improvement Association and other sponsors to bring this event back to the people of Prince George and Northern B.C.," said Hugh Nicholson, Citizen publisher. "Not only will this bring up to 25,000 people to our downtown to enjoy Summerfest, but hopefully many will take advantage of our wonderful restaurants, hotels and retailers."

Previously the festival was located on George Street and between Second and Seventh Avenues.

This year the Civic Plaza will feature performers on a main stage, a Taste Pavilion with contributions from local downtown restaurants, a Kids Zone including art activities, a strolling magician, inflatable toys, mini-rail rides and a man-made fishing hole.

There will be a Pit Challenge from the Prince George Auto Racing Association as well as an antique car display.

Shoppers will explore Artisan Alley where unique gift items will be available for purchase.

"Prince George has been waiting for this event to return and the DBIA is set to deliver a festival that will showcase the talents and tastes of our downtown," said event co-ordinator Heidi Martel.
