Amped and heavy with the metal, the Slammin in the Salmon festival will keep your head bangin' and your fingers pickin' that air guitar July 9 at the Rockin's River Resort along the Salmon River.

Organizer Brad Foster knows people are thinking about the flood just a few weeks ago, but he has walked the resort himself and said it's going to be great for the festival.

Headlining the show is Southern Death Threat with local Brennen Eyles returning for the event.

Eight bands perform with varying degrees of underground metal.

"What I wanted for this festival was just a thing that gives people in Prince George, something to do in Prince George in the summer," said Foster. "It seems everyone just flees town in the summer months and this is for all the local metal heads who will still be here - and not just metalheads, just anyone looking to have a good time in a festival setting."

Two local bands include Deveined, which formed less than a year ago, and Axis Disrupt, which has been together for a decade.

Joining the local contingent is Kataplexis from Calgary whose style is a punishing and in-your-face death metal. Kataplexis has also shared the stage with acts such as Behemoth, The Black Dahlia Murder, Misery Index and Cattle Decapitation, grabbing audiences with their high energy live show.

Galagmex from Vancouver performs crushing death metal which is bound to make fans of the audience. This group has opened for Goatwhore, Watain, Kataklysm, All Shall Perish and Conducting From The Grave.

Death Toll Rising from Edmonton won for best metal song in the first Alberta Metal Awards recently and has opened for bands such as Bison BC, Augury, and Aborted.

Blood Drunk from Kamloops will be making the trek here for the madness as they come off a cross-Canada tour with Endast from Montreal.

Makaria from Vancouver is a group who just released a new CD. Prince George's own Richard Kingston, a familiar name to local metalheads will appear in the band.

The festival will feature a vendor village and camping for those who want to stay the night.

Tickets are $35 for the day pass and $40 for the day of entertainment as the overnight camping.

Gates open at 11 a.m. and the show goes from 1 to 11 p.m.
