Slammin heavy metal festival at Rockin's Resort

Southern Death Threat will headline the guitar-stressing, voice-shredding, all-out metal music festival Slammin in the Salmon Saturday at Rockin's River Resort.

Southern Death Threat will headline the guitar-stressing, voice-shredding, all-out metal music festival Slammin in the Salmon Saturday at Rockin's River Resort.

Nick Oszinski is the lead singer of Southern Death Threat and is looking forward to playing at this brand new metal fest.

"It's exciting for us especially because our guitar player Brennan Eyles is a home-town boy," said Oszinski. "Every time we roll through town it's always extra-special for him because he gets to visit his family and play in front of friends."

Slammin in the Salmon will feature eight bands, two local and six from out of town.

"Slammin in the Salmon is going to be a blast," said Oszinski. "We've got a bunch of great bands on the bill before us and hopefully everyone is up for a big party. We always are and it should be a good time."

Two local bands are Deveined who just began less than a year ago and Axis Disrupt who have played together for about decade.

Joining the local contingent is Kataplexis from Calgary whose style is punishing and in-your-face death metal. Kataplexis has also shared the stage with acts such as Behemoth, The Black Dahlia Murder, Misery Index and Cattle Decapitation grabbing audiences with their high-energy live show.

Galagmex from Vancouver performs crushing death metal which is bound to make fans.

This group has opened for Goatwhore, Watain, Kataklysm, All Shall Perish and Conducting From The Grave.

Death Toll Rising from Edmonton won for best metal song in the first Alberta Metal Awards recently and has opened for bands such as Bison BC, Augury, and Aborted.

Blood Drunk from Kamloops will be making the trek here as they come off a cross-Canada tour with Endast from Montreal.

Makaria from Vancouver is a group who just released a new CD. Prince George's own

Richard Kingston, a familiar name to local metalheads will appear in the band.

The festival will feature a vendor village and camping for those who want to stay the night.

Gates open at 11 a.m. and the show goes from 1 to 11 p.m.

Tickets are $40 for a day pass with camping overnight onsite or $35 for a day pass only at Electron Sound and Percussion, Meow Records, Wikkid Gifts and Black Sheep at the mall.
