From second to last to second place, the Amazing Race Canada sibling duo from Prince George, Joe Syme and Grace Dove, rallied between the first and second episode of CTV’s most popular reality series of the summer as they headed from Alberta to BC.
Dove is a Canadian Screen Award nominated actor who appeared in The Revenant as Leonardo DiCaprio’s wife; Alaska Daily, a television series with Hilary Swank and in How It Ends with Forest Whitaker, as well as the movie and television series Bones of Crows. She lives in Vancouver now but was born and raised in Prince George.
Grace’s brother Joe Syme is a diamond driller from Prince George.
During this episode Syme brought his experience working in remote areas of the province to the forefront by showcasing his organizational skills, pure brute strength and a whole lot of determination.
We didn’t see much of our favourite contestants this episode as they were so very efficient. There was hardly a blip on their journey as they executed their tasks so beautifully.
Amazing Race Canada is hosted by skeleton bobsled Olympic gold medalist Jon Montgomery and based on the popular U.S. version.
The show challenges teams of two as they race across the country — and sometimes beyond — completing physical and mental challenges in pursuit of a grand prize of $250,000 courtesy of FUZE Iced Tea, a trip around the world and two 2025 Chevrolet Blazer EV SS vehicles.
Leading the pack during the second episode as they did in the first episode was best friends Jesse Harink and Jonathon Braun from Vancouver who are representing their 2SLGBTQIA+ community. This time the pair won a trip to Tokyo, Japan from Expedia along with $10,000 and Boost awarded them with $5,000.
The show's pairs include married couples, partners, friends and any combination of family members like cousins, siblings and parent-child match ups, as they navigate unfamiliar terrain, interact with locals and tackle tasks that test their problem-solving and teamwork skills.
Along the way, racers may face a variety of challenges, including Detours — tasks where teams choose between two options — and Roadblocks, which require only one teammate to compete.
The race unfolds over a series of legs, each ending at a designated Pit Stop.
The last team to arrive is typically eliminated, while the first-place finishers often receive rewards.
The last team to arrive during this episode was Brendan McDougall and Sam May from McDougall, Ont., who chose a different path during the Detour, which ultimately led to their downfall.
One segment was filmed in Prince George earlier this year. That episode has yet to air.
New episodes of the Amazing Race Canada air every Tuesday on CTV.
