It's only a five-hour-a-week job right now, but the Prince George Regional Performing Arts Centre Society is expecting big things from their new community relations officer.

"I'm looking forward to working with the society to ensure a new performing arts facility downtown Prince George actually becomes a reality," said Joanne MacDonald, who came to Prince George from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities in Ottawa in June 2010.

MacDonald has worked as a journalist at a major daily and community newspapers as well as a freelancer for magazines. She brings her years of related experience to help promote the society's vision for a proposed new facility.

"A central gathering place for local performing arts and entertainment organizations can only serve to expand on this city's already thriving cultural life."

Society president Sharon Cochran said the society's plans for a new facility are particularly timely as Prince George fears up to host the nation during the upcoming 2015 Canada Games.
