The Columbus Community Centre may just be the most cosmopolitan stable in the city come Saturday night.

That's when the place is host to the first in a series of old-time country dances starring the all local band The Barndance Boys.

"Our intention is to have a dance at Columbus Community Centre the first Saturday evening in the month, for the year," (minus the summer months) said guitar player Ken Mierke.

Each dance will be a fundraiser in partnership with the Knights of Columbus, with the money raised going to worthy community causes. The first recipient is scheduled to be the BC Children's Hospital.

"These are the first for the Knights and for this group," said Mierke. "If the first turns out well, we may go for another in the middle of the month, but that one may be in the country."

The Barndance Boys are a trio made up of Mierke on guitar, Terry Receveur on accordion and Raynie Gervais on fiddle. All three play other instruments as well.

All three have some Saskatchewan in their backgrounds before making the B.C. northern interior their home.

Barndance Boys music is heard in a number of dance settings around the area. They are frequent performers at the Hart Pioneer Centre as well. They will be there on Feb. 25 but first on their agenda are these charitable collaborations with the Knights of Columbus. One is set for Feb. 4 and one is set for Saturday starting at 8 p.m. at the Columbus hall at 7201 Domano Boulevard at the corner of St. Lawrence Avenue.

Tickets are $15 available at the door, with refreshments included. The musical agenda will include polkas, two-steps, waltzes, Schottisches, seven-steps and more.
