There's a murder mystery at the university and the drama club is inviting you to watch it unfold - and maybe even solve it - over dinner March 25 and 26.

The University of Northern B.C. drama club will present comedy drama I'm Getting Murdered in the Morning, by Lee Mueller, in the university's NUGSS Centre.

The main characters are the bride, Brenda Anne Marie played by Michala Bloomfield and groom, Edward Crock played by Matt Murray.

Yvonne Augustine, who plays Sheila, mother of the groom, is a first-year bachelor of science and nursing student.

"Acting is my passion and nursing is something I need because it's stable," laughed Augustine, who has done community theatre and independent film work in Vancouver.

"There's nothing more exciting than being on stage when there's people watching you and you're getting their energy... you just feed off that. It's such a high and there's something so amazing about it."

The play's story follows a typical murder mystery plot line.

During the garter toss at Brenda and Eddie's wedding reception a man falls dead on the dance floor from a gunshot wound.

As details are revealed, it is discovered that the dead man has ties to both the bride and groom's family with secrets coming out that both sides of the family do not wish to become public. As the reception continues the murder mystery takes a back seat, but not for long.

A play with audience participation, a standard feature of dinner theatre, throws unknown information into the mix.

This can be a challenge to any actor, so the cast does improvisation exercises as part of the prep work during rehearsal.

"We have four dress rehearsals, so we should be well prepared," said Augustine.

Dinner will be catered and it's roast beef, with a vegetarian alternative, along with dessert and beverage.

"This is family friendly, so we will not be serving alcohol," said Augustine.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $15 for students and $20 for adults and are at Books & Co., 1685 Third Avenue and the NUGSS office at UNBC.
