Miracle Theatre has postponed its production of On Golden Pond, due to concerns over rising COVID-19 cases and restrictions.

Miracle Theatre has announced its production of On Golden Pond will be postponed, due to the rising risk of the COVID-19 pandemic and ensuing restrictions on public events.

The production is a fundraiser, and all proceeds will go to start an endowment fund for the Prince George Hospice Palliative Care Society, to be managed by the Prince George Community Foundation. The show was set to begin in mid-February at the Prince George Playhouse, but will now run from March 23 to April 17.

“We felt delaying the performances will better protect the safety of theatre attenders, volunteers, and the performance team,” Miracle Theatre producer Anne Laughlin said in a press release. “And of course we are also determined to be in full compliance with all Public Health and Canadian Actors’ Equity Association COVID requirements.”

Rescheduling the performances is complicated, as there is a lot of moving parts, director Ted Price said, but all parties have been supportive of the change. The move is especially tough for the actors, Price added.

“Because we are in regular contact they were not surprised,” Price said in a press release. “We hire from across Canada so the actors were all aware that since mid-December theatres across the country have been shutting down or rescheduling performances.”

Tickets are $35 and will now go on sale on March 1 at Books and Company, or by calling 250-563-6637.
