Even though her love of theatre began at Theatre Northwest, making sure everything runs smoothly behind the scenes at the Prince George Symphony Orchestra (PGSO) is her new happy place.
Loranna Ramsey first began volunteering behind the scenes with Theatre Northwest (TNW) a couple of years ago.
It all started when she was volunteering front of house and then she just wanted to become more involved and became a production assistant for Billy Bishop Goes to War which TNW presented in the fall of 2014.
"I watched that show and I just fell in love with theatre - like I was already in love but that was the show that I realized this is what I wanted to pursue," said Ramsey.
A while ago she got a call from one of her TNW friends who gave her the heads up that the PGSO was looking for a stage manager.
Symphony staff put her to work during one of their recent shows.
"So, I worked that show and it went wonderfully and we all got along really great so now I'm on for the whole season," said Ramsey.
When you're stage manager, you pretty much do all that's required, she added.
"Whatever needs to be done, I'm on it," said Ramsey.
"I make sure that everyone's happy back stage. I have a book and I make sure that we're on time and I talk to the technicians about when the lights are supposed to be on and when they're supposed to be off and taking care of microphones. I'm backstage just in case anything happens."
Ramsey works under the direction of John Moxin, PGSO's production manager, and Ramsey said they get along really well.
The PGSO staff all treats Ramsey very well, she added.
"I don't even feel like a volunteer when I'm working with them," said Ramsey. "They don't treat me any different than anyone else working there."
Part of her volunteer duties include attending two rehearsals before the show.
"So I attend on Friday and help set up, and get everything ready for rehearsal that night," said Ramsey. "Then I stay through rehearsal, take notes and make sure everything's going right and then the next morning I go and make sure everything's smooth, we have mics and we have comms (communication headsets) and make sure everything's all set up and good to go."
And then the show is on Saturday night.
In between those rehearsals and the show Ramsay tends to all the last minute details to ensure the performance goes off without a hitch.
"I've always loved theatre," said Ramsey. "It's always been my passion. I want to pursue a career as a stage manager so I just kind of do everything that I can to get some experience and I like to help out the community theatre groups and everything that happens in town so that's where I'm at. It's just something I've always loved to do."
To put an education behind the desire to stage manage, Ramsey wants to get a bachelor in fine arts and major in theatre. She's applying at a variety of schools to see if she can make that happen.
"I'm just hoping for the best," said Ramsey.
Just for fun in her spare time, Ramsey visits the Roll-A-Dome regularly to strap on the skates and blow off a bit of steam. She owns her own classic four-wheeled roller skates and uses that time to relax and regroup.
"I don't know what I'd do without roller skating," laughed Ramsey. "It's definitely something just for me."
If only she could combine her two passions, she could be the first roller skating stage manager, she teased.
"Now that would be awesome."
