Carrier Sekani Family Services and the producers of Netflix projects Highway of Tears and For Love are seeking expressions of interest from Indigenous directors and filmmakers to participate in the creation of a series of films that will highlight Indigenous women from across Canada.
Carrier Sekani Family Services has received funding from Women and Gender Equality to create a series of vignettes that will highlight notions of hope and strength that exist in Indigenous communities, focusing on Indigenous women.
The series called We are Hope, We are Strength, will feature the artistic beauty of Highway 16, the Highway of Tears, and Canada while also capturing generational messages of hope and strength amongst Indigenous women in this space and beyond.
With these films the goal is to develop content and engage the greater community and country through social media to respond to the calls for justice and challenge people to think ‘what will I do?’ to be a part of the change.
Directors, filmmakers, cinematographers, sound editors, and editors of all levels who are interested in submitting a proposal to be a part of the Hope and Strength project are encouraged to submit their proposals by emailing mmiwg@csfs.org by Nov. 3.
Proposals should include links to any copies of their work including film or video along with a brief description of a story you would like to tell of Hope and Strength. The vignettes will be released in the spring via social media, YouTube and more.
