Huble Homestead hosting Homestead Days this weekend

The two-day event features old-fashioned games, eating contests, demonstrations, food, live music and more.

Huble Homestead Historical Site is hosting Homestead Days, Aug. 6-7.

The event returns on Sunday and Monday with old-fashioned games, contests, demonstrations of historical crafts, live music and more.

“Join us this BC Day long weekend at Huble Homestead, when we celebrate Homestead Days, our oldest running event,” the Huble Homestead website says. “We invite you to step back in time to have fun the old-fashioned way by coming out to enjoy heritage demonstrations such as ice cream and butter making on both Sunday and Monday!”

Kids and adults can participate in games and contests including egg-and-spoon races, wheelbarrow races, corn on the cob and watermelon eating contests, egg and rolling pin tossing, sack and three-legged races, and site tours.

There will be live music by Genevieve Jaide from noon to 1:30 p.m., pancake breakfasts from 10 a.m. to noon and box lunch socials, with an opportunity to bid on picnic lunches, at noon each day. The regular BBQ will also be available from noon to 4 p.m. daily.

There will be demonstrations of ice cream, butter and cheese making, as well as demonstrations of traditional crafts such as the pole lathe, wool, natural dyes, lace. A demonstration of blackpowder shooting will be taking place on Monday.
