Her artwork is A Tad Bit Knotty

Meagan Samuels macrame is A Tad Bit Knotty and people can check it out at the Prince George Farmer's Market on Saturdays in downtown Prince George.

A Tad Bit Knotty is the name of Meagan Samuels' handcrafted macrame items for home and garden.

Macrame is a creative retro art and many of us remember crafting that owl wall hanging when we were kids but this is something completely different.

Hanging in her grandmother’s house were a few items her mother had made and Samuels always carried those fond memories with her.

When her sister, Desiree, started creating more recently Samuels figured out it was something she liked to do.

“I kind of got into it because right now I stay at home with my three-and-a-half-year-old son so I decided to not go back to work and do this instead,” Samuels said. “I wanted some sort of hobby and I wanted something that was just mine so just shy of a year and a half ago I started doing macrame and I fell in love with it.”

Samuels said she loves to sit down and create a new item each time.

“At first I started messing around with plant hangers then eventually I went into wall hangings and it took some persistence and then a lot of knotting and undoing and reknotting and when I figured it out I thought I’d try my hand at selling,” Samuels said.

“I had a really good season last year and I am hoping for bigger and better this year.”

Samuels sells her macrame in an artisan boutique called So Divine in Fort. St. James, in Burns Lake, Vanderhoof and Prince George and has had her most recent successes at the Small Business Fairs held throughout the winter at the Roll-A-Dome.

She’s at the Prince George Farmers’ Market every weekend during the summer starting this Saturday, May 6, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
