For the first time ever, an all-ages Haunted Maze will be open to the public as a fundraising event for BC Children's Hospital at 1363 Manson Cres. Organizers will also take donations of non-perishables for a local food bank.
On Sunday and Monday, the maze will be small-child friendly from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., then the scare is upped a bit to appeal to older children from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and then after 7 p.m., there is a full-on scare assault for those who dare.
The maze will be created with palettes and so far there's 150 and counting being utilized, said organizer Chris Bennett.
"There will be flood lights and fog machines and it's pretty big right now and we're not done yet," said Bennett, who gathered together a Tough Mudder team who competed in the Mud, Sweat and Tears obstacle course race earlier this year. The MudderBots wanted to continue their team building efforts and thought a fundraising event would be ideal.
"We all love Halloween more than Christmas," said Bennett, best known as The Joker at FanCon. "We love Christmas but Halloween is where it's at because we're big into dressing up."
Bennett will be one of the scarier characters adults will be confronted with in the maze.
"There's big decorations in the front yard and the maze will be in the backyard," said Bennett.
