The Northern FX Aerosol exhibit showcases Andrew Mooney and his graffiti-style artwork in the Feature Gallery at the Prince George & District Community Arts Council, starting Thursday, July 11 at 7 p.m.
Mooney has four canvases, all custom made, that will be on display at the show and he will be performing a live demonstration to allow the audience to see the process first hand during the opening night.
Mooney, 29, has been drawing since he was about four years old and discovered graffiti art at the indoor skate park on Ogilvie called Youth Recreation Impact.
"I learned a lot from the guys at that park," said Mooney. "I used to look through their sketchbooks."
Back then there were lots of graffiti artists. Then they grew up.
"Those guys have got to be at least 40 years old by now," said Mooney. "I can't imagine they're still painting on walls."
Mooney's exhibit will feature some of his latest projects. Since most of his other artwork is on the walls of places like boardshops, it makes it hard to create a body of work that an artist can put on display in a gallery setting.
But there is definitely a process he follows to make his art.
"I will get an idea in my head and then I'll basically translate that idea from my head to paper," said Mooney. "You just take a lighter colour - any colour, it doesn't matter, and you just do your outline and it's always going to look weird but you just do it and it all comes together but it never looks like the image you started with. Everything gets changed once you blow it up 40 times to scale on a wall."
The event is free and everyone is welcome to attend.
