Foxx on the hunt at Nancy O's

You'll only get the G-rated version of the conversation in the paper, said comedian Kevin Foxx, who will be appearing at Nancy O's Aug. 11 and 12.

He won't guarantee that when it comes to his show.

He said that's one of the most valuable lessons he's learned in his 17 years of performing comedy - to be able to switch gears.

"I am just as comfortable in a biker bar as I am at a black-tie event," said Foxx.

"My comedy is reflective of my life and I just turned 40. When I was younger I wanted to be rich and famous and now I just want to go to the bathroom in peace," Foxx said. (That's the G-rated version of what he actually said.) "So my goals have been drastically lowered."

Foxx has two children, 19 and eight years old.

"I take my time in bed," Foxx dead pans.

Foxx has enjoyed years of success, including on his radio show, The Kevin Foxx Show, on Toronto's hit radio station CFRB. He has appeared at comedy clubs and on corporate stages as well as many television programs including a pilot for Showtime written by the late great Richard Pryor. Foxx wrote and starred in his own one-hour comedy special on CTV and The Comedy Network and has been a featured writer for This Hour Has 22 Minutes.

Foxx has appeared at almost every major comedy festival, including Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal, the Chicago Comedy Festival, the Global Comedy Festival as well as sharing the stage with stars like Robin Williams, Chris Rock, Jerry Seinfeld, Jeff Beck, Colin James, Brent Butt and Dave Chappelle.

"To me comedy is a dance between the audience and the comedian, so it all depends on the energy I am receiving from the audience and I use that in my act and they kind of tell me where to go," Foxx said.

Foxx has been in Prince George about 15 times, he said.

"I have new jokes, so even if you've seen me before, come on down anyway," said Foxx. "And I promise to leave it all on the stage."

The show starts at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 10 and Friday, Aug. 11 at Nancy O's, 1261 Third Avenue. Ticket are $20 including $5 off food for the evening.

Reservations are recommended for groups of six or more.
