Felted creatures, knitted gnomes and socks found at the Fibre Arts Guild sale

Within the cozy space at Prince George Fibre Arts Guild patrons will see handmade hats and socks, gnomes and felted creatures during their annual sale at Studio 2880 on Dec. 9 and 10.

There’s little felted creatures tucked away for patrons to discover within the walls of the cozy space at Prince George Fibre Arts Guild during their annual sale. There’s two days left of the four-day sale where there’s knit hats and socks, snowmen and gnomes. There’s felted dryer balls – but people buy them for their cats as an all-natural-fibre toy, too. One is hanging up as an ornament because it’s just so pretty.

And best of all, there’s members of the guild gathered together carding wool they’ve hand dyed in order to prepare it to be hand spun into skeens of wool. Others are knitting or crocheting and one member is crouched low near a basket, helping a customer find the perfect pair of handmade slipper booties that you know she already loves just by looking at the smile on her face.

There’s even mini felted nativity scenes that would be a perfect keepsake for someone who holds the reason for the season so dear.

That’s what you’ll see during the last two days of the sale on Dec. 9 and 10 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Fibre Arts Guild room at Studio 2880-15th Avenue. It’s the second building in the complex and there’s a sign pointing you in the right direction.

Grace Morrice, vice president of the guild, said the guild has been around for about 40 years and previously known as the Spinners and Weavers but it’s grown to become so much more than that so they decided to rename it to cover all the artisans of the Fibre Arts. There’s about 25 members in all, with about 15 showcasing their wares at the sale.

“Anything to do with fibre, we go for it,” Morrice said. “It’s creativity at its best.”
