There was s'more downtown during Downtown Prince George's winter carnival Sunday in front of city hall.

Along with snow carvings, a road hockey game, a winter market featuring local vendors, community art opportunities, a snow slide and sports demonstrations, one of the highlights of the event was a friendly competition that gave between 2,500 and 3,000 visitors a few s'more options.

From a Canadian classic to a sweet treat twist, the winning team of the s'more competition was the Spice Cabinet, led by MLA Shirley Bond, who sold 600 super-sized s'mores and donated their earnings and prize money in the amount of $1,200 to the local branch of Big Brothers Big Sisters, while The Prince George Citizen team placed second and earned $451 for St. Vincent de Paul Society with their creation of the Smorkie, that featured a roasted marshmallow between two cookies.

"Downtown Prince George was extremely pleased with the turnout, the events and the weather for our inaugural Downtown Winter Carnival," said Colleen Van Mook, executive director, Downtown Prince George.

"The collaboration with our incredible sponsors and partners helped us deliver a great event for our downtown and our community. We were so happy that Prince George came to be a part of spectacular showcase of winter fun."
