She tried criminology, she tried nursing but Ashley Clarke needed a more creative outlet and has now completed her first year in New Media Communication and Design at the College of New Caledonia.

And she's really happy about it, Clarke said.

The College hosted a year-end Design Show Thursday night to display the work of its students in the new media program, and those in fine arts whose work is part of CNC's permanent collection as well as digital photography.

"I was looking for something different and I really like the desktop publishing part of the new media course," said Clarke. That's where people's creativity can shine through as they make things like posters and business logos.

Clarke said she will complete this course next year and continue her studies at Vancouver Island University pursuing a degree in graphic design. She then has plans to return to hometown Prince George in order to teach the new media course at the College of New Caledonia.

It was a full house at the Design Shows opening night Thursday where about 100 people attended. The exhibit began with a few words from new media instructor Graham Pearce who talked a bit about the process involved in producing the work the audience was about to see at Exploration Place, including illustration, graphic design, web and multimedia.

The exhibit will be on display and open to the public until Thursday.
