The Kinsmen Club presents a combo of professional and amateur comedians during Stand Up for Charity 8, Saturday, Oct. 1.
Patrick Maliha, stand-up comedian and world-record holding impressionist, has his own recently-aired Comedy Now special, appeared on CBC radio, XM and Sirius satellite radio's various comedy programs, and hosted Afternoon Buzz every Monday to Friday on Talk 1410 Radio for which he won numerous awards including Favourite Afternoon Radio Show.
The dinner and show is always a sell out.
"It's been a very successful event right from the very first," said Mike McGuire, event chairperson. "This show is always well attended and it's such a fun event."
McGuire said he really likes it that the event has provided an opportunity to showcase local talent while featuring an experienced professional comedian, as well.
"It gives our local comedians a chance to get their feet wet," said McGuire, who is one of at least four amateur comedians who will perform at the show.
"We're trying to foster an amateur group in town," he said. "The three amateurs who did the first show all moved away to Nanaimo at the same time and they are all now doing amateur stuff down there. It's really neat and we continuously get new people all the time."
The Kinsmen Club of Prince George has been in existence since 1946 and all proceeds go to charity, including groups like Cystic Fibrosis Canada, Northern B.C. Friends of Children Society, as well as a rent subsidy for Big Brothers Big Sisters that are located at the Kinsmen Community Complex.
"The neat thing about this is that all the extra food that we are allowed to give away goes to St. Vincent De Paul Society," said McGuire. "So if we cook too much those in need benefit."
