Classic rock fans can start celebrating. Prism, Honeymoon Suite and Kenny Shields & Streetheart will perform at CN Centre Saturday, April 30, as a Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation fundraiser.

This type of show is different from the foundation's other fundraising efforts, said executive director of the healthcare foundation, Don Gowan.

"We were looking to bring in an act during the Festival of Trees [a major fundraising event for the Spirit of the North] and we were looking at the Canadian Tenors," he said.

"We thought that would be a beautiful Christmas theme and it would have a really huge appeal. As I talked to some of the promoters about getting an act into town, they told me about this huge gap in Prince George for classic rock."

It seems Heart has been one of few classic rock acts to recently grace the CN Centre stage, said Gowan.

"There's still a ton of old classic rock bands whose music is played on the radio day after day but there's nobody bringing them up," said Gowan.

Prism, Honeymoon Suite and Kenny Shields & Streetheart are all Canadian bands of the '60s and '70s.

Classic rock fans will remember Prism's Spaceship Superstar, Honeymoon Suite's Wave Babies and Kenny Shields & Streetheart's What Kind of Love is This.

The Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation wanted to find a way to expand the pie of fundraising, he explained.

"We don't always want to be fighting over the charitable dollars," Gowan said. "We wanted to find a way to get money from people that may not ordinarily support us and dollars that are not coming from traditional charitable areas and that's how this all took shape."

Because of all the support from promoters, sound and light technicians, venues and media, Gowan said it looks like the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation could make some funds putting on this show.

"It's going to be a great evening in Prince George," said Gowan. "We're really excited about it and we've already got a good response to it and especially from out-of-towners who will make a special trip into town for the event."

The show will be set in cabaret style on the floor of the CN Centre, and the seats are open to all ages. Everyone is invited to attend.

Tickets will be on sale soon at all Ticketmaster outlets.
