The City of Prince George says thanks as it gets ready to host the "Thank you PG" party on Sept. 23.

The event will celebrate the city's generosity and successful efforts to welcome, assist and care for all Cariboo wildfire evacuees this summer while they made Prince George their temporary home for over a month.

About 10,676 evacuees were registered according to the city.

Headlining the event is multi-Juno award-winning rock group Glass Tiger, with special guest Barney Bental, and DJ Ant will kick off the evening from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m.

"This summer, we did something extraordinary," said Mayor, Lyn Hall.

"We welcomed more than 10,000 people into our community. Ten thousand people who were fleeing wildfires in the Cariboo. On behalf of council, thank you Prince George. We're proud of how you stepped up and showed what hospitality really means in our region. But we can do more than say it. We can show it. Please join us in Canada Games Plaza this Saturday to give yourselves and your neighbours a well-deserved pat on the back for an extraordinary job well done."

The Thank you PG event will also feature a free barbeque during the evening provided by Save-On-Foods and cooked on Integris and Husky Energy barbeques.

Festivities will begin from 4 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. at Canada Games Plaza.

Thank you PG is sponsored by Canadian Tire, Northern Lights Estate Winery, Pacific Western Brewing, Save-On-Foods, Integris, Kyle Sampson Event Entertainment, Coast Inn of the North, NR Motors, Husky Energy, 6ix Sigma Productions, District of Vanderhoof, 250 News, 94.3 the Goat and Country 97, CKPG, 101.3 the River, 99.3 the Drive, Prince George Citizen, Central Display and Papason Trucking.
