Cinema CNC kicks off fall lineup

Cinema CNC's fall series has something for everyone, featuring films from Argentina and Australia.

Cinema CNC's fall series has something for everyone, featuring films from Argentina and Australia.

The curtain rises Saturday, when Academy Award winner The Secret in Their Eyes from Argentina hits the big screen in Room 1-306 at CNC's Prince George campus.

"We're excited to have this mix of international films, with subjects ranging from ballroom dancing to garbage," said organizer Peter Maides. "The fall 2010 series boasts nine films ranging from screenplays to documentaries, from the U.S., U.K., Australia, Italy and Argentina."

The Secret in Their Eyes won the Oscar last spring for Best Foreign Language Film. The documentary Waste Land (Nov. 6) is about the people who survive on refuse from the world's largest landfill site outside Rio de Janeiro.

The series wraps up Nov. 27 with Jack Goes Boating, where best actor Oscar winner Philip Seymour Hoffman makes his directorial debut. Based on the acclaimed off Broadway play of the same name, Jack Goes Boating is an unconventional tale of love, betrayal and friendship set against the backdrop of working-class New York City.

Other films include: Mao's Last Dancer, Oct. 16; I am Love, Oct. 23; Soul Kitchen, Nov. 13; and Tamara Drewe, Nov. 13.

Showtimes for all films are 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Passes, $42, for all seven films are available at CNC Bookstore and Books and Company.

Single tickets are $8 regular, $6 students, seniors (except for the first film) will be available the Monday before screenings.
