Back in the day when songs of summer breezes and ever lasting love were playing on the radio, there was one singer songwriter we all thought was making a difference.

Bruce Cockburn sang of rocket launchers and trees falling in the forest and he was making his audience aware of what was going on in the world. We were all forced to look at the bigger picture as he brought it all home through this new thing they called videos that told the stories of the top 40 hit songs.

Cockburn will be performing solo at Vanier Hall at 7:30 p.m. Thursday night.

"Last time I can remember playing Prince George it was the folk festival in the park (Fort George Park 2007)," Cockburn said. "It will be very nice to come back and be closer to the folks."

People appreciate Cockburn's songs because they are so meaningful.

"I certainly appreciate the fact that some of these songs have touched people and it touches me back, of course, when I hear sentiments like that expressed - it's nice to hear somebody say that and to have people respond to the songs in the way that makes me feel like the songs matter to them."

Tickets are $39.50 and are available at all Ticketmaster outlets or charge by phone 250-614-9100.
