Call out for small art

There are no small artists, only small art.

The painters and sculptors who have participated in the previous editions of The Best Damn Little Art Auction will tell you it is often a large effort to make a tiny piece. The details are the devil, sometimes.

Each year the Community Arts Council holds a unique show and sale. The auction is especially for works that are no larger than six inches by six inches. For the veteran artist, it is a challenge; for the novice artist it is a relief; for the arts council, it is a novel fundraiser. Artists also get money from the sale of each piece sold.

The 6x6 pieces are all auctioned off, giving art fans an affordable way to purchase original works and perhaps go home snug in the knowledge they now own an authentic work by some of the region's stars. Or you can get a piece by an up-and-comer that shows promise. Or you could be giving a boost to a new rookie who did worthy work and your purchase was the affirmation they needed to carry on in the art industry.

Whatever the motivation of the buyer, the even is still several weeks away. The auction is April 21, but now is the time for the artists of the community to sign up.

The official call for submissions has been issued by the Community Arts Council, and the details are as follows:

Open call for 6x6-inch submissions in any medium.

Calling all student artists, emerging artists and professionals alike.

Non-juried show - everyone welcome.

Three submission maximum per artist.

The artist and the CAC share the final sale proceeds 50-50 on each piece sold.

Please email your submission interest to Sue at [email protected]
