Alberta thrash is coming to a Prince George stage.

Calgary band Illyrian has P.G. on their Western Canada tour schedule. These thrashers were formerly known as Hellborn Death Engines.

They are out on the road in support of their latest album entitled Round 2: Fight!

They described their latest song package as "10 mosh pit-ready thrash crowd pleasers."

This is the first album under the new name, triggered by the lineup changes that brought bassist and vocalist Jeff Perry and drummer Darren May into the full-time fold, joining the guitar and vocals duo of Scott Onofrychuk and Brandon McNeil.

"Evolving into a highly technical group playing thrash metal with their erratic and precise on-stage delivery, rapier wit, along with nostalgic charm, Illyrian have removed the constraints of conventional metal sub-genre formula to replace their sound with a melting pot of technical thrash riffs, blistering solos, prog-influenced rhythms along with the band's signature tri-vocal attack," said an issued statement from the band.

The core of the group formed in 2011 and since then they have released debut album Welcome To The Hellmouth, been called to the stage of the Loud As Hell IV festival in Drumheller and Calgary Metalfest. They have shared the stage with bands like King Parrot, Origin, Beyond Creation, Cauldron and others.

Illyrian is a reference to the area of Europe known as Illyria in ancient times. With ties to both the ancient Greece and the Roman empire, it is the region generally located on the eastern coast of the Balkan Peninsula looking across the Adriatic Sea at the back of Italy's boot.

The band hits Prince George on May 19 at 8 p.m. at Fore Bistro then down the road in Burns Lake at The Dungeon on May 20.

The Prince George show will also feature an undercard of Far From First, Sword Of Damocles, Crucible Of Scorn, Infamous Conduct, The Handlebars and John Martin Bodo.

Tickets are $20 in advance (available at Fore, Cowboy Ranch, and Black Sheep Gifts) or $25 at the door.
