Book Prize finalists tour comes to P.G.

BC Book Prize finalists are going on the road and will pass through Prince George April 9 at Books and Company, 1685 Third Avenue.

Six finalists will make stops throughout northern B.C. and the Okanagan with free readings at bookstores and libraries from April 7 to 20.

Authors touring Northern British Columbia are:

Stephen Collis, On the Material, shortlisted for the Dorothy Livesay Poetry Prize

Gary Kent, Fishing with Gubby, shortlisted for the Bill Duthie Booksellers' Choice Award

Gina McMurchy-Barber, Free as a Bird, shortlisted for the Sheila A. Egoff Children's Literature Prize

Authors touring the Okanagan are:

George Bowering, My Darling Nellie Grey, shortlisted for the Dorothy Livesay Poetry Prize

Julie Flett, Owls See Clearly at Night: A Michif Alphabet (Lii Yiiboo Nayaapiwak Lii Swer: L'alfabet di Michif), shortlisted for the Christie Harris Illustrated Children's Literature Prize

Derek Lundy, Borderlands: Riding the Edge of America, shortlisted for the Hubert Evans Non-Fiction Prize

B.C. book lovers are invited to meet these award-nominated authors and purchase signed books at these free public events:

The winners in seven B.C. Book Prizes categories will be announced at the Lieutenant Governor's B.C. Book Prizes gala on Thursday, April 21 at the Kay Meek Centre in West Vancouver, hosted by Bob Robertson and Linda Cullen.

British Columbia's Lieutenant Governor, the Honourable Steven L. Point, OBC, will be in attendance.

Also at the gala, the 2011 Lieutenant Governor's Award for Literary Excellence will be presented. This award was established in 2003 by the Honourable Iona Campagnolo to recognize British Columbia writers who have contributed to the development of literary excellence in the province.
