There's no show stopper like breast cancer.

Sabrina Weeks and Swing Cat Bounce were to appear in Prince George last March but the show was postponed because of the "big c."

Weeks is now strong, cancer-free and ready to party with Prince George.

Yes, she's changed from her experience and she said she wanted to tell everyone she's no longer a blonde. After her cancer treatments her hair grew in curly and brown.

But she's embracing all the changes in her life - including being a curly-haired brunette - as only a breast-cancer survivor can. And she's ready to rock the blues house all night long when she comes to kick off the eighth season of Blues Underground at the Kinsmen Community Complex Saturday night.

"I feel like I have a lot more perspective on what's important and I feel like it's the beginning of a healing journey which changes your life in a way that you couldn't possibly imagine unless you were to face it. What it's given me is so much more than what it has taken away."

Sabrina Weeks and Swing Cat Bounce is a dance band, first and foremost.

"Bounce and boogie blues is our specialty," said Weeks. "People who come to the show will have a really good time, so wear comfortable shoes because you're going to be on the dance floor all night long."

Weeks said as she gets deeper into blues she has found more artists that she likes and that reflects the band's music.

"The brush with cancer has led me to seek out songs that are more in the positive vein," said Weeks. "We do a bit of tongue-in-cheek comedy stuff going on with our lyrics, too. And people who come to our show are just happy. It's a beautiful exchange of love and happiness."

Tickets are $25 each, $20 for members, on sale now at Books & Company, 1685 Third Avenue. This is a 19 years and older event at the Kinsmen Community Complex, 777 Kinsmen Place. Doors open at 7:30 and show starts at 8:30 p.m.
